‘Pogba 2.0’–Manchester United youngster monitored by Juventus as competition grows

Kobbie Mainoo

Bilbao, Spain – 05 01 2025: Kobbie Mainoo seen during UEFA Europa League semifinal game between teams of Athletic Club and Manchester United FC

Kobbie Mainoo was in action for Manchester United against Everton on Monday, getting just over 30 minutes.

While the Red Devils lost, it was the most the midfielder has played since 45 minutes against Burnley early in August. This is the only game he’s had since then which has seen him on the pitch for 30 minutes or more.

The Italian press have endlessly linked Napoli with a move for the youngster. Their very succesful swoop for Scott McTominay and following transfer for Rasmus Hojlund has encouraged the claims.

Interest in the 20-year-old is now growing in Italy, with him seen as a market opportunity.

TuttoJuve reiterate that Antonio Conte’s side see Mainoo as an option, but Juventus interest is also growing.

They describe the situation as ‘Pogba 2.0’, as Mainoo finds himself in a situation similar to what the Frenchman faced in his younger days. Pogba was 19-years-of-age when he moved to the Turin club.

Manchester United may be split

The outlet claim that Manchester United will consider any suitable offers in January, with Mainoo seeking more game time. That stance may be an overly optimistic one for an Italian audience, and has been reported before.

With Ruben Amorim clearly not having a place for Mainoo, the manager may prefer a permanent sale. He would then have a chance to reinvest the money. Manchester United, on the other hand, could be reluctant to let such a talented academy product leave.
