Sky Reporter Claims Chelsea Are“Crazy”About Signing 19 Year Old Who Has Been Likened To Paul Pogba

Chelsea are among the Premier League teams keeping tabs on RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Assan Ouedraogo, according to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.

Writing on his X account, Plettenberg said that the Blues and Manchester United are “crazy” about the 19-year-old, who could be a target for “next summer”.

Ouedraogo has been labelled the next Paul Pogba by some in the press due to his style of play, and he is beginning to realise his potential.

For Leipzig this season, he has scored 3 goals and provided 4 assists in 12 appearances, including the opener during a 2-0 win over Werder Bremen at the weekend.

Ouedraogo could have moved to England 18 months ago

This is not the first time that the German has been linked with a transfer to the Premier League.

Leipzig are believed to have beaten competition from English teams when they paid €10m to Schalke for Ouedraogo in the summer of 2024.

The youngster struggled with injuries during his first year at Leipzig, with hamstring and knee problems limiting him to just 5 appearances.

The Chelsea target has also impressed at international level

Ouedraogo was in the headlines last week when he scored on his debut for Germany during a 6-0 win over Slovakia in a World Cup qualifier. He found the back of the net within minutes of coming onto the pitch.

Based on his recent form for both club and country, it is unsurprising that the Blues are keeping a very close eye on his development.

Of course, if Enzo Maresca‘s side do come calling in the New Year, Leipzig are expected to demand a lot more than the €10m they paid for him at the start of last season, especially if he can build on his performances in recent weeks.
