It was hard to pick a standout performer in Manchester United’s disappointing defeat to Everton.
Everton’s 1-0 win over Manchester United gifted former Red Devils manager David Moyes a first Premier League away win at Old Trafford.
Across from Moyes on the touchline, Ruben Amorim cut a frustrated figure as he watched his side fail to break down Everton’s 10-man defence.
Senior players such as Bruno Fernandes and Luke Shaw underperformed, while Joshua Zirkzee failed to impress on his first league start in the absence of Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko.
How would you rate Bruno Fernandes’ performance vs Everton from 1-10?

It was hard to find any silver lining in United’s performance, but there were promising signs from substitute Mason Mount.
Mason Mount avoided Man United sloppiness
Amorim looked to make changes at half-time after United fell behind to 10 men, and one of the only attacking options on the bench was Mount. He came on to replace Noussair Mazraoui for the second half.
It is well-known that Amorim is a big admirer of Mount, and the 26-year-old did have a positive impact from the bench despite not being able to draw United level.

But where Mount really stood out from his teammates was in his passing. He completed 19 of his 20 passes, boasting a success rate of 95 per cent. On a day when United were sloppy in possession, Mount was the anomaly.
Who was the most DISAPPOINTING Man Utd player vs Everton?
Defensively, he also added the intensity that Amorim was looking for. Mount made three recoveries and had a 100% success rate for ground duels.
His off-the-ball running allowed United to find pockets of space, but unfortunately, the quality of finishing was not good enough to get the Red Devils back in the game.
Mason Mount must start against Crystal Palace
The absence of Sesko and particularly Cunha was felt by United against Everton.
United lacked the creative spark that has often been provided by the Brazilian this season. Statistically, Mount is the best replacement for Cunha due to his line-breaking passes.
When it comes to breaking down a low-block defence, United tend to struggle. Amorim needs more creative-minded players, and that is where Mount shines.

Mount is one of United’s most talented players in tight spaces, and he proved it against Everton.
If Cunha is still unavailable for the trip to Crystal Palace next weekend, Mount deserves to start in the front three.
