Amorim’s “biggest concern” becomes clear after Man United loss to Everton

Ruben Amorim has revealed his “biggest concern” following Manchester United’s **1-0 Premier League defeat**to 10-man Everton at Old Trafford on Monday night.

Despite the **bizarre 13th-minute dismissal**of Idrissa Gueye for slapping Toffees teammate Michael Keane, Man United were unable to take advantage of the extra man and failed to break down a team who had previously claimed just one away win all season against basement club Wolves.

While Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored with Everton's only shot on target, the Red Devils failed to find the net with any of their 23 shots and were eventually condemned to their first ever Premier League home defeat after seeing the opposition pick up a red card - United had won 36 games out of 46 in which this happened before.

Defeat for Man United ended their positive five-game unbeaten run and has seen them slip to 10th in the Premier League table, albeit just three points behind the top four.

After the match, Amorim admitted to reporters that the result was “really bad” and expressed his concern over his team’s performance against a side with 10 men for more than 70 minutes.

Amorim left “really frustrated” with Man Utd players after Everton loss

"Forget the result. The result is really bad but I was more concerned by the feeling I had during the game. Everyone should play better today,” said Amorim.

"We didn't play as a team well. We didn't understand the game and we were going with the flow of the game, and that is my biggest concern.

“The understanding of every situation of the game was not there and then the quality near the box, but most important is the intensity. You can feel it right away, when we start the game.

“We can feel when we are at the top level in intensity and when we are not, and you cannot win games in this way.

"I have said, on many occasions, that I understand we have a lot to do. I have that feeling but, of course, I am really frustrated by the way we play the game, especially in our home and especially understanding what happened during this week, with the other clubs and looking at the table.

“Feeling everything in the way we present, especially in the first minute of the game. It is really, really frustrating."

Man United “nowhere near” the level expected by Amorim

Amorim was unable to celebrate his one-year anniversary in charge of Man United on a positive note and has insisted that his team are still “nowhere near” the level expected.

"We are not there, not even near the point that we should be to fight for the best positions," the Portuguese added. "We have a lot to do. We have to be perfect to win games, we were not perfect today.

"When we see the results of the weekend, we should get onto the pitch with a different excitement. Old Trafford was there saying 'we are all here for a big step up'. And we were not ready.

"These five weeks, everyone is praising our evolution. But I'm always saying the same things: we are nowhere near the moment we are meant to be in this club."

Three of Man United’s next five Premier League before Christmas are against teams currently above them in the table, including next Sunday’s trip to Selhurst Park to face fifth-placed Crystal Palace.
