“People think I’m fixated”–Fresh Ruben Amorim comments on Manchester United tactics

Manchester United manager Rúben Amorim became the first guest onDAZN Portugal’s new Q&A segment on YouTube.

Supporters were invited to ask direct questions, and one fan pressed the manager on whether he plans to revive the “mobile attack” he once used at Sporting.

The question suggested a setup with no fixed striker. Plus a front line that constantly rotates, possibly with Bryan Mbuemo drifting inside.

Amorim then said Manchester United already tried something similar against Liverpool, although the role fell to Matheus Cunha on that occasion.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim looks on during the UEFA Europa League 2024-25 match between Real Sociedad and Manchester United at Reale Arena on March 06, 2025 in San Sebastian, Spain.

He made the point that the modern game changes shape all the time.“We can say it’s a ‘four-four-two’, but five minutes later it’s a ‘four-three-three’ or a ‘three-four-three’.”

For him, that fluidity is normal, especially in the Premier League.

He also took the opportunity to respond to his critics, adding:“I’m open to everything. People think I’m fixated on one idea, but I simply start from a base.”

Amorim then explained that Mbuemo usually hurts opponents more when attacking from wide areas because he likes to “stay hidden” before bursting into space. Even so, he accepted that the winger’s pace in transition makes the idea of using him centrally a real possibility.

In the end, the Manchester United manager made it clear that nothing is off the table. The “mobile” front line remains part of his tactical toolbox… And could be used again when the moment is right.

When that is, nobody knows.
