Report: Kobbie Mainoo could follow in Paul Pogba footsteps, repeat expensive Man Utd blunder

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo remains in a situation where he will be keen to leave on loan in January, and clubs are lining up for his signature.

It has been a long few months for Kobbie Mainoo as he has had the frustration of limited game time, which has taken the shine off his star at Manchester United.

Mainoo asked to leave on loan in August; however, he was told no as the club valued him too highly, especially with limited midfield options available to Ruben Amorim.

What Paul Scholes said about Man Utd selling Kobbie Mainoo

“It’s ridiculous. He’s United’s brightest spark.

“He’s probably the leading man who could be here for the next five to 10 years.”

However, Mainoo has barely played this season, yet Amorim is prepared to block a loan exit, which could see the talented 20-year-old asking questions about his future again.

If his departure is on the cards, now a new club have been thrown into the mix.

Kobbie Mainoo wanted by Juventus in January

United are plotting a move to sign Joao Gomes in January, and therefore, this could suggest Mainoo will be allowed his move.

There will be no shortage of suitors, and now Juventus have joined the race.

According to Italian outlet Tutto Juve, Mainoo is being sought after by half of Europe in January, and his fate will be decided by United’s needs for the transfer window.

The report outlines that all options remain open for Mainoo in January, and if a suitable offer arrives for the midfielder.

Finally, it is stated that Juventus is interested in Mainoo, and there is a chance they try to do a Paul Pogba 2.0 move, which could end very badly for United.

Manchester United will be desperate to avoid repeating Paul Pogba mistake

If Juventus are looking at Mainoo, it won’t just be a loan, and they’ll instead be hoping to one day have him permanently, given his massive potential.

Juventus will no doubt be thinking that they can repeat the Pogba signing, in which they took him for free from United before then costing the Red Devils £89m to re-sign him.

This was a marquee addition; however, United re-signing Pogba for such a massive fee just a few years after his exit was absolutely not in the plan.

So with Mainoo, this will be an embarrassment that United are keen to avoid, and so the club cannot let him go, as the youngster clearly has the talent needed to shine at the club.

Mainoo can be loaned in January, but under no circumstances should he be cashed in on to fund a move for a Gomes.
