Manchester United have landed Kyle Macaulay as their new head of senior scouting with the 39-year-old previously working as an analyst under Graham Potter.
He's held roles at Brighton, Chelsea and West Ham but will now bolster the department at Old Trafford with his remit centring on their transfer business. Macaulay will oversee United's global scouting network and report into Christopher Vivell, United’s director of recruitment.
The pair will reunite having worked with each other at Chelsea from 2022 to 2023, Vivell was technical director and Macaulay was head of scouting. Macaulay’s career path has largely followed that of Potter - even going back to Swedish side Ostersunds.
Macaulay spent six years as Ostersunds’ chief analyst during their rise and then followed Potter to Swansea City in 2018 as chief scout. At Brighton he was their head of scouting and helped uncover a number of gems, some of whom resulted in huge profits and now play for leading Premier League sides.
Leandro Trossard, Moises Caicedo, Kaoru Mitoma, Marc Cucurella and Danny Welbeck were all signed on Macaulay's watch before he left the Amex to head to Chelsea.
He remained with the Blues after Potter's sacking in a chief analyst role under Mauricio Pochettino and Enzo Maresca. Macaulay left Chelsea to join West Ham alongside Potter in January 2025 but departed in October, shortly after Potter was given his marching orders.
United had been looking to add a key figure to assist on transfers since July, reports The Athletic, and considered a number of candidates before landing on Macaulay. Among those they looked at was Ben Chorley, the former sporting director of Valenciennes in France and current head of UK scouting at Southampton.

Recruitment has long been considered an issue for the Manchester side, but it was generally accepted that they had one of their best windows back in the summer. They invested heavily but bought in players who had proven themselves in England - Bryan Mbeumo among them.
The jury is still out on the £74million they spent on Benjamin Sesko, but Ruben Amorim remains confident the young Slovenian will come good. Senne Lammens was signed as an unknown quantity but the Belgian has established himself as the new United No 1 after some impressive showings.
