Everton target Joshua Zirkzee left frustrated after clashing with Toffees star at Old Trafford

Everton beat Manchester United 1-0 on Monday night as Joshua Zirkzee was left frustrated in front of David Moyes.

Monday night saw Everton claim a first win at Manchester United in some 12 years.

Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall scored the only goal of the game, rifling a brilliant strike beyond Senna Lammens.

That doesn’t really touch on the big moment of the night, though, as Idrissa Gana Gueye was given his marching orders for appearing to strike teammate Michael Keane.

Everton bounced back from that bizarre moment to claim all three points with 10 men, producing a memorable night for Toffees fans.

United were without Benjamin Sesko due to injury, meaning Joshua Zirkzee was given the nod up front.

Everton are eyeing Zirkzee ahead of the January transfer window, with the Dutchman struggling for action at Old Trafford.

Jordan Pickford made a stunning save to deny Zirkzee in the second half, but the Dutchman struggled to make an impact on the whole.

If Zirkzee was looking to catch Moyes’ eye on Monday night, he didn’t quite hit the mark.

Zirkzee may point to being a little rusty, given his lack of Premier League action so far this season.

The former Bologna striker just hasn’t offered enough of a goal threat since arriving in England in 2024, and he certainly didn’t show that he could be Everton’s answer in attack.

Who was your MOTM vs Man United?

Joshua Zirkzee clashed with James Tarkowski

Gueye was dismissed for the slap on Keane, but another clash took place mere minutes earlier.

Everton defender James Tarkowski bumped Zirkzee to the ground off the ball, leading to the pair squaring up and exchanging words.

Tarkowski seemingly wants to lay down an early marker on Zirkzee and let the United forward know that he was in for a tough night.

If Zirkzee does make a January move to Hill Dickinson Stadium, he may just have a slightly awkward reunion with Tarkowski.

That deal doesn’t look particularly likely, though, especially after Zirkzee struggled to impress against the Everton back line.
