Andy Mitten: Man Utd desperate to sign 'elite' £100m+ midfielder, he's the one Ineos really want

Manchester United ‘would love’ to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson next year amid his breakout campaign for club and country, journalist Andy Mitten has revealed.

The Old Trafford side are targeting a new midfield signing in 2026 as part of their plans to rebolster Ruben Amorim’s squad, and are believed to have earmarked Anderson as one of their top options.

Having targeted a move for Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba, the Red Devils also remain keen on the 21-year-old Cameroonian, who, as GIVEMESPORT previously revealed, would be ‘very keen’ on a move to Old Trafford after positive conversations took place this summer.

Man United Identify Anderson as Top Target

Elliot Anderson

Mitten, speaking on the Talk of the Devils podcast, revealed that Man United view Anderson as exactly the type of midfielder they would like to sign, and also sent a direct message to the Forest midfielder.

“I mentioned Elliot Anderson a few weeks ago — absolutely, Manchester United would love to sign him. It’s obvious, and he’s exactly the type of player Manchester United want.

“If you’re listening to this, Elliot Anderson, look at what fellow Geordie Brian Robson did in 1981. You can join one of the biggest football clubs in the world and you can be part of their recovery.

This train is only going to pass once for you, son. Get on the train, because you will never, ever regret it. You can play for middling clubs, you can play for clubs that haven’t treated you well, or you can join Manchester United.”

A move for Anderson could cost over £100m next year, and his value is only anticipated to rise in the coming months, with the 23-year-old emerging as a key player for England ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

The 'elite' Forest midfielder, who joined from Newcastle in the summer of 2024, is under contract until June 2029 at the City Ground.

Anderson Could Replace Casemiro

Man United could target Anderson as a midfield replacement for Casemiro next year, with the Brazilian’s contract expiring at the end of the campaign.

The 33-year-old has been instrumental for Ruben Amorim this term, scoring three goals and providing one assist in 11 appearances in the Premier League.

United could also well offer a new deal to the ex-Real Madrid midfielder and, according to GIVEMESPORT senior correspondent Fabrizio Romano, that well remains a possibility.

The Red Devils are contemplating a new deal for Casemiro on a reduced salary, with Harry Maguire also being considered for an extension, with his deal also running out in June.

Man Utd are After Joao Gomes

Joao Gomes celebrates scoring a goal for Wolves

Man United have been linked with a plethora of Premier League midfielders recently, and one name they could target in January is Wolves star Joao Gomes.

According to reports, the Brazilian ace could be available for just £44m at the turn of the year amid Wolves’ precarious league position, with the Molineux side rock-bottom of the table with no wins in 12 games.
