Manchester United are still grappling with the aftermath of their humiliating defeat to 10-man Everton.

Ruben Amorim's side saw their five-game unbeaten run come to an end in a 1-0 reverse at Old Trafford on Monday evening. The Red Devils had every reason to feel optimistic going into the match, considering the encouraging signs of progress Amorim's team have displayed in recent weeks.

Yet United failed to make the most of their opportunity after Everton were left with 10 men following Idrissa Gueye's outburst at his own team-mate early in the opening period. Rather than United capitalising on their numerical superiority, Everton grabbed the opener through Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and managed to cling on for all three points.

The outcome handed David Moyes his maiden Old Trafford triumph as an away boss and left United languishing in 10th position. Here's all the latest news from United.

Matthijs de Ligt delivered a scathing assessment of United's display after they struggled to fashion openings against Everton.

The Red Devils repeatedly crossed into the box as they desperately sought an equaliser - playing into the hands of the visitors and their defensive strengths.

The United centre-back took aim at the team's tactics, hinting at his dissatisfaction with Amorim's game plan, reports the Mirror.

"From our side, we didn't do enough. Didn't make the runs or bodies into the box," he told Sky Sports. "They are strong in the air so we didn't have the players to score from that.

"We basically played to their strengths. These are the main aspects, but we have to look at ourselves and it's not good enough.

"We've been away and trained for a while together. I just think we lacked a bit of urgency in several situations.

"They get punished if you lack this urgency. If you don't score, you lose this game. We lacked this hunger to make a difference on the most important moments."

Nicky Butt has revealed he nearly had his Manchester United season ticket taken away from him.

His former team-mate Paul Scholes had previously outlined his struggles in securing additional tickets for matches due to staff turnover since their playing careers ended.

Butt then shared his own problem with his United season ticket and how the club has changed under controversial co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

He said on The Good, The Bad and The Football podcast: "If you don't use them three times you get them taken off you. I've had an email saying 'you're having your ticket taken off you'.

"So I rang them up and said 'Can I speak to somebody about this please?' And they go 'Who am I speaking to please?' And I go Nicky Butt and they go, 'Okay, well who's that?'

"I couldn't really say it but I felt like saying: 'I played about 450 games for this club! I've won about six or seven titles.' It's a different world, I wouldn't know [who to go to for tickets]."

Butt represented United from 1992 to 2004. He featured in 387 matches during his stint at the club, claiming numerous major trophies, including six Premier League titles, three FA Cups and the 1999 Champions League.
