Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens believes it was the right decision to delay his debut for the Reds as he was allowed time to adjust to the pace of the Premier League. After Andre Onana's unconvincing performance at Grimsby Town in the Carabao Cup, Ruben Amorim chose to sign a new goalkeeper before the summer transfer window closed.

Lammens was bought after just one full season at Royal Antwerp and while he arrived in Manchester as an unknown quantity, there was a clamour for him to come straight in to the team. While Onana's exit was almost assured, his replacement Altay Bayindir was also struggling.

Bayindir stayed in goal for matches against Manchester City, Chelsea and Brentford before Lammens was given his chance. Speaking on the latest episode of Inside Carrington, the Belgian explained why he felt the decision was made and why he backed it.

He said: "I think clearly the quality is way better, everything goes a tick faster, every guy is a tick stronger and the ball goes a little bit faster. So the first couple of weeks was getting used to it, to be honest, so that is why I think the way that I was brought in was also a positive to give me the time and those first couple of weeks, which I needed, to adjust to training and get my level to the guys.

"In the games after it was easier because I was already used to it after a couple of weeks of training with the first team. The finishing you can feel… if you are just one step to the left they can see it and they just put it to the right of you."

Since Lammens became the first choice at Old Trafford, he has impressed supporters with his performances. Prior to Monday night, United had not lost with the 23-year-old in goal. His displays have also been noticed by his national team too. Last week he made his first appearance for Belgium as they defeated Liechtenstein 7-0 in their final World Cup qualifier.
