Manchester United are considering Wolves star Joao Gomes among their options in the ongoing search for a new midfielder, Fabrizio Romano has exclusively revealed in his GIVEMESPORT newsletter.
The Old Trafford side have reportedly earmarked the 24-year-old among other names on the shortlist, which also includes summer target Carlos Baleba from Brighton.
Romano suggests Man United have yet to pinpoint their top midfield target for 2026, although they remain on course to bring in a fresh addition in the middle of the park as a priority.
Gomes was linked with a January switch to Old Trafford by recent reports in the Brazilian media. The ex-Flamengo star is under contract at Molineux until June 2030, having penned an extension earlier this year.
Man Utd Considering Move for Joao Gomes

Romano, writing exclusively in his GIVEMESPORT newsletter, revealed that United are considering Gomes among other options in their search for a new midfielder.
"He’s one of the names under consideration, not the only one. Man United have several midfielders on their shortlist."
Gomes joined Wolves from Flamengo in January 2023 and would bring considerable Premier League experience to Old Trafford, having made 93 appearances and scored six goals.
The Brazilian midfielder has featured in each of Wolves’ 12 league games this campaign, making 10 starts. He captained the side in the 1-1 draw with Brighton in October.
New Wolves boss Rob Edwards was questioned over Gomes’ future at the club earlier this week but maintained there has been no official approach for the midfielder despite United’s reported interest:
"We've spoken about stuff but my focus has been on getting the team organised. We have got some good players and there will always be interest, but I'm not aware of anything. Joao has been excellent this week."

Amid their plans to sign a new midfielder in 2026, Man United are also planning to retain Casemiro beyond his contract expiry in June.
As GIVEMESPORT reported previously, the Old Trafford side are aiming to offer the Brazilian fresh terms on a reduced salary, given his importance to Ruben Amorim this season.
Casemiro has started 10 of United’s 12 Premier League games this term, scoring three goals and providing one assist.
His resurgence as a regular starter could also mean a January exit for struggling academy graduate Kobbie Mainoo, who has yet to start a Premier League game this season.
