Senne Lammens has been a bit of a revelation this season for Manchester United, immediately upgrading the goalkeeping position, which was in turmoil with Altay Bayindir.
After Ruben Amorim made the decision to pick Altay Bayindir over Andre Onana, it became apparent that Manchester United were going to need a new starter
This is where Senne Lammens stepped in as Ineos’ pick to be the new shot stopper. His impressive start saw Lammens earn Peter Schmeichel comparisons from fans right away, and despite a few shaky moments, there is no debating that he’s an upgrade on recent goalkeepers.
So much so, United have tabled plans to sign another number one, with Radek Vitek tipped to offer competition next season. Now Ben Foster has told Lammens what he thinks of his start.

Ben Foster praises Senne Lammens for his mental qualities
This season, Lammens has been praised by Sir Alex Ferguson, among others, but now he’s been hailed to his face by a fellow goalkeeper.
Ruben Amorim is excited about Senne Lammens
He can kick long balls with a lot of quality with both feet, and that is a detail that can change the way we play the game.
Lammens has appeared on the latest episode of the ‘Inside Carrington’ podcast with Foster as a special guest. During the episode, Foster told Lammens he has been impressed with his mentality.
“First of all, your mentality, Senne. You’ve come into the club, and you don’t seem fazed by everything. You seem to be so controlled.

“I don’t know if I could have done that at 23. In fact, I actually tried, didn’t I! When I was at United, I think I was 23, 24, and I just couldn’t deal with that expectation. I just couldn’t deal with that expectation.
“I just felt like I had the watching world on me. And it was such a heavy weight on my shoulders. That’s the bit that I’m talking about. Senne, I’m so impressed.”

Senne Lammens’ calmness is refreshing for Manchester United
Lammens being praised for his mentality is perfect, as it really is one of the main reasons he has been such an improvement on Onana and Bayindir. Amorim has been surprised by Lammens and his ability to handle the pressure.

Lammens’ mental strength means that when he does happen to make a small error, he doesn’t allow it to consume him and his performance, instead bouncing back immediately.
This was something Onana really struggled with, as one bad moment usually spiralled into a collection, and games in which he had a nightmare.
Lammens is calm, composed and goes about his goalkeeping without feeling the need to be over the top, and Foster hailing him for it proves that the Belgian is on the right track and is a complete professional.
This will only continue to improve for Lammens as he grows as a goalkeeper, but the signs so far are clear: he was made to play for United.
