Manchester United considered a move for Antoine Semenyo last summer, but Bournemouth’s talisman remains a target after staying put at the Vitality Stadium.
There will inevitably be stiff competition to secure the signing of Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth, which is likely to happen in 2026.
When it emerged that Semenyo has a £65m release clause in his contract, United were linked again, even though it’s widely known that the central midfield positions are going to take priority for the Red Devils in the new year.
United signed five players in the summer, with three of them being forward players to bolster the attacking department.
However, Semenyo could play three different roles for United, making him both versatile and one of the best players in the Premier League right now. Former United striker Wayne Rooney believes Semenyo has been better than Erling Haaland this season.
Only time will tell if United will pass on the opportunity to sign Semenyo or if he’ll be one of the next signings made by Ruben Amorim.

Andy Mitten clarifies Man Utd stance on Antoine Semenyo transfer
United’s attack-minded signings from the summer have done well since the beginning of the season.
Bryan Mbeumo is the best example, having won the Premier League Player of the Month award in October, as well as scoring six goals for his new club.

The Cameroon international was the preferred option over Semenyo, but there is a chance they could end up being teammates, should United push to sign the Bournemouth star.
Now, speaking on the Talk of the Devils podcast, respected journalist Andy Mitten has shared what he has been told about Semenyo and United.
“So, United went for him last summer. When the deal timed out, the word from Bournemouth, who were very switched on, was that they wanted £70 million,” Mitten said.
“There was a my understanding of this and I didn’t pay too much attention to what was being reported at the time, so please correct me, there were not many biters for that price and the deal timed out on Manchester United.
“That’s how it was told to me, so he’s absolutely somebody Manchester United would be interested in signing to play for and improve the team.”
Should Man Utd pay Antoine Semenyo’s £65m release clause in January?
That suggests that United remain keen on Semenyo and will be monitoring his situation closely in January when one of their rival clubs could make a move for the Ghana international.
Man Utd face Premier League competition for Antoine Semenyo
Liverpool’s interest in Semenyo has been well documented, so United know they have that level of competition for the forward’s signature if they pursue a deal.
A new report from talkSPORT claims Man City could have a big say on the future of Semenyo.
City boss Pep Guardiola is said to be a big admirer of the 25-year-old after describing him as an ‘extraordinary player’ earlier this month.
That means all the Premier League juggernauts are chasing Semenyo, but it remains to be seen if it will be as much of a priority as a central midfielder at Old Trafford.
