Neville and Carragher in stitches as Keane 'makes Stick to Football history' with gaffe

Roy Keane was left red-faced after his phone went off during an episode of Stick to Football, to the amusement of his co-hosts.

The Manchester United legend once famously hit out at a journalist whose mobile phone started to ring during one his press conferences as Ipswich manager back in 2009.

But Keane was forced to eat humble pie in a recent episode of The Overlap podcast, after his phone interrupted the recording.

Roy Keane's blunder

In the latest episode, Chelsea legend Ashley Cole sat down with Keane and his fellow co-hosts Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Wayne Rooney and Ian Wright.

However, things didn't quite go according to plan, as the Irishman's phone started to ring just as Cole was reflecting on his career.

The six-time Premier League winner had been talking about his early days coming through the ranks at Arsenal.

Cole began: "We had the odd opportunity to come and train..." but he was then cut off by cheers as Keane's phone began to ring.

Neville, Carragher and Wright couldn't hide their amusement at the interruption, with the Man United great known for being a stickler for professionalism.

Poking fun at Keane, a gleeful Neville shouted: "That's Stick to Football history! The ill-discipline!"

Wright then chimed in: "If that was anyone else!"

This sparked a hilarious reaction from Keane, who threw his phone across the room.

Looking embarrassed, the 54-year-old seethed: "I'm raging with that. That breaks me."

He quickly added: "My phone's always on silent!"

His former United teammate Rooney then made sure to rub his nose in it, as he reminded Keane that Cole had just been talking about senior players setting an example.

Rooney pointed out: "And he [Cole] was just saying those older players are so important to learn from!"

Infamous Ipswich press conference

Given Keane's history with phones ringing, it was no surprise that his infamous incident as Ipswich boss was then brought up.

In 2009, the former Ireland international was taking part in a press conference during his stint as Ipswich manager.

He was answering a question regarding cheating in football before a phone started to ring.

"Who's phone is that? It's the second time it's gone off," Keane said with a stern look on his face, clearly unimpressed.

The journalist in question then admitted it was his, only for the then-Ipswich boss to shoot back: "Why don't you turn it off?

"You're sitting there, it's the second time it's gone off. Why don't you put it on silent, why don't you turn it off?"

The reporter replied: "I'll turn that off in a minute, I thought I'd let it ring out," to which Keane sarcastically came back: "Oh right, that's good manners."

And following Keane's phone-related blunder in the latest 'Stick to Football' episode, he was quickly reminded of his previous run-in by co-host Neville.

Surprisingly, the Red Devils icon revealed that he had since been reunited with the reporter that day, and that the pair had patched things up.

"A reporter came looking for me and I asked him. I said: 'Well, why didn't you switch it off all those years ago?'

"He said: 'I was nervous. I didn't know what to do'. But he apologised for that and I apologise for that."
