Manchester United are reportedly planning to sign two wing-backs and a midfielder next summer, but a January transfer window move is not off the table. The Red Devils will likely approach the winter window with caution after a busy summer, where five new faces were welcomed to Ruben Amorim's squad.
Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Senne Lammens, and Diego Leon all made the switch to Old Trafford during the summer transfer window, costing the club a hefty £236million. Carlos Baleba of Brighton was also heavily linked with a move to United, but a deal failed to materialise. ESPN claim that alongside Baleba, Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton are among the midfield targets being considered.
United have also reportedly been eyeing moves for Wolves pair Joao Gomes and Andre, as well as Angelo Stiller and Conor Gallagher.
It's believed that United's recruitment strategy for next summer will focus on securing 'at least one' top-tier midfielder.
Casemiro, whose contract expires in the summer, could be offered a new deal on reduced terms. However, United may decide to part ways and seek a long-term solution.
Despite this, Manuel Ugarte has yet to prove himself as United's first-choice defensive midfielder.
While a few transfers could be on the cards in January and 'nothing has been ruled out,' the majority of their transfer dealings are expected to take place next summer.
Next month, Amorim will be temporarily without Mbeumo, Amad and Noussair Mazraoui due to their participation in the Africa Cup of Nations, while Sesko is currently recuperating from a knee injury he sustained against Tottenham.
Meanwhile, it seems likely that Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, two of the club's top earners, will be departing Old Trafford.
Despite splashing the cash on new signings last summer, the club acknowledges that 'there are limitations' with the squad currently available to Amorim.
