Manchester United will reportedly look to strengthen their options at wing-back and midfield next summer, though movements in upcoming transfer window have not been ruled out. According to ESPN, United are likely to approach January with caution.

It was a busy summer for the club with five new additions to Ruben Amorim's squad and there already is speculation that more players could be signed soon. Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Senne Lammens, and Diego Leon all moved to Old Trafford during the summer transfer window costing the club £236million.

Brighton & Hove Albion's midfielder Carlos Baleba was also heavily linked but a transfer did not come to fruition. ESPN note that alongside Baleba, Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton are among the names in the frame as midfield targets.

United have also reportedly explored moves for Wolves duo Joao Gomes and Andre, as well as Angelo Stiller and Conor Gallagher.

They claim that the Reds' recruitment plan next summer is believed to revolve around bringing in 'at least one' top-level midfielder.

The Manchester Evening News understands that Casemiro, who is out of contract in the summer, could be offered a new deal on reduced terms, though United may opt to cut ties and look for a long-term solution.

With that said, Manuel Ugarte has yet to convince as United's first-choice defensive midfielder.

While some movement could be expected in January and ESPN report that 'nothing has been ruled out,' the bulk of their transfer business is expected to be left until next summer.

Next month, Amorim will temporarily be without Bryan Mbeumo, Amad and Noussair Mazraoui due to their involvement in the Africa Cup of Nations while Sesko is currently recovering from a knee injury he suffered against Tottenham.

Meanwhile, the futures of Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, two of the club's highest earners, are expected to be away from Old Trafford.

Despite spending heavily in signings last summer, the club believe that 'there are limitations' with the squad currently at the disposal of Amorim.
