Man United interested in Ligue 1 defender

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim will hope to see his side return to winning ways against Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils were on a five-game unbeaten run prior to a surprise 1-0 defeat against Everton on Monday evening, a result that leaves United tenth in the Premier League table.

The Eagles will also likely provide a stern test for United at Selhurst Park, with Oliver Glasner’s side currently sitting fifth in the top flight standings after an impressive recent run.

Off the pitch, however, it has now emerged that Man United are in the running to sign a French defender.

According to CaughtOffside, United are one of several clubs interested Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet.

The report claims that Man United’s scouts have been impressed by the 20-year-old, while current Premier League leaders Arsenal are also in the running to sign the player.

Jacques joined Rennes as a youngster and has played 25 times for the club since graduating into the first team.

The central defender – who can also play as a right-back – is said to have emerged on the radar of the Red Devils as they look to address their defensive issues next year.

Current defender Harry Maguire is set to be out of contract at the end of the season, while Lisandro Martinez has a concerning injury record.

As well as Arsenal, fellow London sides Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace are all also said to be keeping tabs on the Frenchman.

German side RB Leipzig are also credited with an interest in the youngster, who is under contract at Rennes until the summer of 2029.

Rennes are reportedly set to demand a relatively low fee of around £25-35 million to allow Jacquet to leave the club.
