Manchester United are poised to complete the signing of Colombian wonderkid Cristian Orozco from Fortaleza CEIF in the next few days.
The Red Devils secured a verbal agreement to land the midfielder back in October. The club will reportedly pay a fee of under £1 million.
Orozco can’t be registered to play for United until he turns 18 next summer, but the Red Devils are still proceeding with the necessary formalities.
Fabrizio Romano reports that the 17-year-old will be in the United Kingdom in the next few days, most likely to undergo his medical with the club.
Orozco will probably sign a pre-contract agreement for next summer’s transfer window.
Orozco is a young talent with good potential
The youngster signed for Fortaleza CEIF from Rojo only in July this year. He has yet to make his senior debut for the club, but United have been tracking him.
The defensive midfielder played for Colombia at the Under-17 South American Championship in March & April where they eventually lost on penalties to Brazil.
He recently represented them at the Under-17 World Cup. Orozco had a good tournament until his sending off against France during the round of 32 defeat (2-0 loss).
Looking at the positives, Orozco won 4.3 duels and two tackles per game at the World Cup. He also made 6.5 recoveries per outing. He is a young talent with good potential.
Still, there is room for development before he can become a first-team player. Orozco had a passing accuracy of only 78 percent and lost possession 14.3 times per game.
Orozco is poised to return to Fortaleza CIEF after signing for the Red Devils. Hopefully, he will get plenty of first-team exposure before his formal switch to the club next summer.
