Ruben Amorim has confirmed Matheus Cunha and Harry Maguire will be unavailable for Manchester United's game against Crystal Palace in the Premier League. Last weekend, Cunha pulled out of an appearance to switch on the Christmas lights in Altrincham with event organisers posting on social media that he would not attend due to “medical reasons”.
United sources confirmed Cunha had suffered a knock in training. The issue was described as minor, but it was serious enough for him to miss the Everton game on Monday night.
Maguire was absent against Everton due to the hamstring injury he picked up against Tottenham before the November international break. The defender was brought off in the 72nd minute of that game.
Benjamin Sesko remains sidelined with a knee injury. Amorim confirmed at last week's press conference that he expects to have Sesko available again before Wolves on December 8, but he said the striker may need more time.
"Sesko is going to take a little more time," said Amorim. "Harry is the same [he will need more time], but I expect to have Matheus in the next one, not this one. It will take a little bit longer - we will take care of the injury."
United's undefeated run of five games was ended by Everton earlier in the week. The Toffees played 77 minutes with 10 men at Old Trafford but were still able to claim a victory.
"It was really tough, the week was hard with this result, this defeat, but the process needs to continue and we need to go to the next game," said Amorim about the Everton defeat.
"If I look at the games, we should have more points. We had the advantage in some games and we lost control, which is really disappointing and frustrating, especially after the last game."
Palace were defeated 2-1 by Strasbourg in the Europa Conference League on Thursday night.
