Wolves have the opportunity to do some incoming and outgoing transfer business when the January window opens up
Wolves are rock bottom of the Premier League table and are winless in their first 12 fixtures. They lost 2-0 at home to Crystal Palace at Molineux last time out. The Midlands outfit are back in action on Sunday with an away trip to Villa Park to play Aston Villa.
Rob Edwards’ side are in the relegation zone along with Leeds United and Burnley. Edwards was appointed as their head coach earlier this month and left his position at Middlesbrough. The former Watford and Luton Town man was picked as their replacement for Vitor Pereira.
Wolves midfielder Andre eyed by Manchester United
Wolves midfielder Andre is on Manchester United’s radar along with Joao Gomes, as per a report by ESPN. He is being linked with a switch to Old Trafford ahead of the January transfer window. His contract expires in June 2029 meaning he still has a few more years left to run down.
Andre, 24, rose up through the academy ranks at Fluminense and was a regular at various different youth levels. He broke into their first-team as a youngster back in 2020 and went on to make 197 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with four goals. The Brazil international, who has 13 caps to his name, then made the switch over to England.
The Ibirataia-born man has since become a key player for Wolves. They lured him away from South America to bolster their midfield ranks. He has since made 49 outings for them altogether and is yet to find the net.
What now for Andre at Wolves amid Manchester United links?
Wolves won’t want to lose Andre, especially midway through a campaign to a team in the same league. However, their hands may be tied if Manchester United came in with an offer that they can’t refuse. He is also unlikely to stay if they are relegated to the Championship.
Ruben Amorim may have identified the player as someone to add more quality to his options in the middle of the park. If he joined, he would give the Red Devils more competition and depth in that area. Casemiro isn’t getting any younger and they could do with injecting some more youthful energy in his position ahead of the coming years.
After landing Andre in 2024, former Wolves sporting director Matt Hobbs, who is now at Crystal Palace, said at the time: “It feels like a long time in the making. He’s got the same agent as Joao Gomes and is a player we talked about when we did Joao. We hadn't been in a financial position in other windows to do it, when we were interested. It’s one that I thought we were going to miss out on, so I'm unbelievably excited to have him come and join us.
“He works hard, wins his tackles and picks up second balls. He’s physically good and we think he’ll thrive in the Premier League, similar to how Joao has. Our midfield now feels like a real strength of ours. I want the fans to be excited about it.”
