Former Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has made a surprising move into combat sports by becoming a shareholder of Way of Warrior FC (WOW).
The Spanish firm promotes Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) events. The decision sees Ronaldo team up with lightweight Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) star Ilia Topuria on the company's board.
The announcement follows the 40-year-old's remarks about next summer's World Cup in North America.
Taking to X, Ronaldo declared: "I'm excited to share some big news: I will become a shareholder of @wowfcmma! We share values I truly believe in - discipline, respect, resilience, and the constant pursuit of excellence.
"WOW FC is building something unique and powerful - and I'm proud to join this project to help elevate the sport and inspire the next generation."
Topuria also shared his thoughts on the partnership: "Having Cristiano Ronaldo join WOW FC is a powerful moment for the sport," he said.
"He represents the highest standards of professionalism, hard work, and global excellence. Together, we will push MMA to new heights and inspire athletes and fans around the world to believe that anything is possible."
Ronaldo plays for Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr, having penned a fresh two-year deal with the club in June that will see him remain until he reaches 42.
The Portuguese legend is also gearing up to feature for his country at next summer's World Cup in North America, marking his sixth tournament appearance.

However, Ronaldo has acknowledged that it will mark his final mark on football's biggest stage. Speaking at the Tourise Summit in Riyadh earlier this month, Cristiano Ronaldo confirmed that the 2026 World Cup will be his last.
"Definitely, yes," he said. " I will be 41-years-old and I think [this] will be the moment in the big competition."
During a previous interview, Ronaldo hinted at retirement soon, but he clarified those comments. "Let's be honest, when I mean soon, it's probably one or two years I'll still be at the game," he explained.
Ronaldo's business ventures extend beyond football, with investments in MMA, hotels and gyms back in Portugal.
The former United man is also the face of the CR7 lifestyle brand and has a lifetime contract with sportswear giant Nike - reportedly worth a staggering $1billion (£760million).
