Man Utd star was 0/10 against Crystal Palace in 4-0 thrashing, now Ruben Amorim is relying on him - Opinion

Manchester United are back at Selhurst Park this weekend, the scene of one really bad defeat under Erik ten Hag back in May 2024.

For years, Selhurst Park has developed a reputation for being one of the toughest away grounds in the Premier League, this rings particularly true for Manchester United.

There have been bad results at the South London ground over the years, but none worse than Erik ten Hag’s 2024 visit which saw a 4-0 demolition at the hands of Oliver Glasner.

This was a result which should have sealed Ten Hag’s fate at the time, although the team he actually fielded was very weak due to injury making it not that shocking.

In particular, one player was absolutely terrible.

Casemiro was appalling on one previous visit to Selhurst Park

Due to injuries at the time, Casemiro and Jonny Evans were Ten Hag’s centre-back pairing, which is horrendous and does explain the bad result.

However, there is no excuse for the manner in which Casemiro played as he got turned inside out while wearing the captains armband.

Casemiro scored a 0/10 match rating in this fixture, and it might have even been lower as the ‘catastrophic’ performance could easily have drawn an end to his United career before he had a resurgence last season.

In the game, Casemiro won seven of 16 duels and was dribbled past seven times, which showcases that he was like a deer in the headlights.

However, this weekend Casemiro will want revenge and he is likely to start as United hope to end the long-term struggles at Selhurst Park.

Ruben Amorim will be relying on Casemiro to redeem himself for Manchester United

After the 4-0 loss to Palace in 2024, some thought that Casemiro should never be playing for United again, arguing that the game had left him.

However, Amorim has hailed Casemiro’s comeback, as he has had a second wind in his career becoming a pivotal part of United’s current team.

Despite a strong season, Casemiro was poor against Everton but with a week of rest, we can expect the Brazilian to be back to his best this weekend.

Amorim needs a big performance from Casemiro, as without this it could end up being another long day for the Red Devils at Selhurst Park.

Winning is vital for United to avoid heading into December on a losing streak as this would put Amorim back under pressure.
