Matheus Cunha has given an injury update on social media after it was revealed the Manchester United forward would miss this weekend’s clash against Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
A Tough Away Day
The Red Devils travel to Selhurst Park on Sunday to face Oliver Glasner’s side, one of the only other teams in the division to play the same 3-4-2-1 system as United.
But where Ruben Amorim has struggled to implement his trademark system, despite the success it produced in Lisbon for Sporting CP, Glasner has overseen arguably the best period in Palace’s history.
Under the Austrian coach, the Eagles have won two trophies in the space of three months – the FA Cup and Carabao Cup, beating Manchester City and Liverpool to do so – and gone on their longest unbeaten run in the Premier League era.
Palace away is undoubtedly one of the toughest games on offer in England at present – and Glasner’s superb management has been foundational to this transformation in south London.
United will be desperate for three points after the abysmal 1-0 defeat to 10-man Everton at Old Trafford on Monday night. But they will again be without Cunha and Slovenian striker Benjamin Sesko, as the pair were ruled out of the match with injuries.
Cunha, 26, suffered a serious head injury in training last week. The blow caused him to miss a charity event and, as per concussion protocols, he was also ruled out of both the Everton and, now, Palace fixtures.
A Positive Update
Cunha took to social media to clarify his condition with fans desperate to see him back in action after the abject attacking display on Monday.
Posting on Instagram, the Brazil international wrote: “Thank you for the messages. I haven’t gone crazy yet. Despite the joke, thank you for your concern. Much love.”

It’s a major blow – comparable to the one Cunha sustained – to United’s prospects of getting a result at Selhurst Park, exacerbated by Sesko’s absence as well.
The 26-year-old forward, signed from Wolves for £62.5 million in the summer, has not racked up the number of goals and assists he undoubtedly would have hoped at this stage of his debut campaign.
Matheus Cunha stats: 2025/26 Season
Competition Appearances Goals Assists Yellow Cards Red Cards Minutes Played
Premier League 10 1 - - - 684'
EFL Cup 1 - - - - 90'
Total 11 1 - - - 774'
But Cunha’s general play lifts those around him – and offers a constant outlet for his new teammates to find, with the ability to constantly receive the ball under pressure and help progress play up the pitch.
His performance at Anfield in the 2-1 win over Liverpool in October was a testament to the fact that a forward’s contributions do not always have to come in the opposition box for them to be the best player on the pitch.
