Highly-rated Manchester United prospect, JJ Gabriel, has been involved in first-team training sessions ahead of the club's latest game. The 15-year-old has been among five academy stars to train with Ruben Amorim's side.

The club's Portuguese head coach is preparing his side for Sunday afternoon's Premier League clash against Crystal Palace (12pm). And, in the build-up, he's taken the chance to look at some of his prospects.

As reported by The Sun, the players have been training with the first-team due to the heavy workload for the U21s, including behind-closed-doors matches. Gabriel is said to have taken part in training on Thursday.

Despite impressing for the Under-18s, and making the step up, he will be unable to make his first-team debut until January at the earliest.

That's due to Premier League rules stating that a player must have turned 15 by August 31 to feature this term with Gabriel only turning 15 last month.

The same rules doesn't apply in the FA Cup, meaning the teenager could potentially make his debut for the United first-team in the third round of the competition.

Amorim could still have the chance to give another young player their big chance - with the other players spotted in training old enough to feature in the Premier League.

Forward Shea Lacey, 17-year-old left winger Noah Ajayi, midfielder Jim Thwaites and centre-back, Godwill Kukonki, have all also been spotted in training ahead of the game against Palace.

Lacey, 18 was named on the bench for Monday night's loss against Everton. He was an unused substitute, but was promoted to the squad following the injury to Matheus Cunha in the build-up to the game.

Speaking about the youngster before the game, Amorim said: "I'm really happy with him [Lacey].

"He struggled a little bit with injuries, but they did a very good job balancing his body - and you can sense he can manage more load during training.

"He has a lot of talent, but when they come here they can sense the speed is completely different, so they need to spend more time with us to be prepared because our training is hard. In the Premier League games, that pressure is harder, so they need to be ready.

"When you call a kid up to the first team, they need to behave really well.

"This connection is really important. We are putting everything in place - a nutritionist for the academy starts now - in our club. That is something that should be basic.

"All these things we are doing, so I have more time with them and I'm more confident with them. When we put these kids in to play in the Premier League, they will struggle, but will struggle less I think."

United youngsters could be given more of a chance to make the step up over the next few months with Amad, Bryan Mbeumo and Noussair Mazraoui all going away to represent their national teams at Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
