Matheus Cunha has taken to social media to thank Manchester United fans for their support during his injury lay-off. The Brazilian forward is recovering from a knock sustained in training last week.

The injury ruled him out of the Everton defeat and he will miss Sunday's clash with Crystal Palace. "I expect to have Matheus in the next one [West Ham on Thursday], not this one," Reds manager Ruben Amorim confirmed in his press conference on Friday.

Cunha took to Instagram that evening, posting a picture of himself training on the bike alongside the caption: "Thank you all for the messages, I haven't gone crazy yet. Despite the joke, thank you for your concern. Much love."

Cunha, who completed a £62.5 million move from Wolves in the summer, has impressed at Old Trafford and his absence has been significant.

His injury initially became public knowledge when the 26 year-old was unable to attend a Christmas lights switch-on in Altrincham.

"Unfortunately Matheus Cunha has had an accident in training today and will not be able to attend tonight’s Christmas Lights Switch on in Altrincham due to medical reasons," @VisitAltrincham tweeted a week ago.

Besides Cunha, Benjamin Sesko also remains sidelined with a knee injury. Amorim confirmed at last week's press conference that he expects to have Sesko available again before Wolves on December 8, but he said the striker may need more time.

Meanwhile, Harry Maguire will also remain unavailable due to a thigh issue. "It will take a little bit longer, and we are taking care of him. Harry, the same," Amorim explained.

United are back in action on Sunday at Palace (12pm) where they will look to bounce back from the loss to Everton. Prior to that result, Amorim's team went five games unbeaten in the Premier League.

Those games brought wins over Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton followed by draws with Nottingham Forest and Tottenham.

United are tenth in the Premier League on 18 points from 12 games. They head into the weekend three points off the top four in an extremely congested top half of the table.
