It's back to the drawing board for Ruben Amorim and Manchester United. The feel-good factor that was returning to Old Trafford came to an end on Monday as the Red Devils stumbled to a 1-0 home loss to 10-man Everton, ending a five-match unbeaten run.
United were without Matheus Cunha after the Brazil forward suffered a knock in training last weekend, which compounded the absence of striker Benjamin Sesko due to a knee injury.
Neither will be available for Sunday’s trip to Crystal Palace, where experienced defender Harry Maguire will again miss out. The Palace game is a dangerous one for United, given the Eagles' impressive form under Oliver Glasner, who has been mentioned as a possible replacement for Amorim should the Portuguese coach lose his job. Midfielder 'wants' to join
Another name has entered the fray as Amorim looks to beef up his midfield this January.
The engine room is an obvious area for attention and numerous stars have been linked with moves to Old Trafford, including Brighton's Carlos Baleba and Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest.
Another potential incoming is Wolves middleman Joao Gomes, who wants to join the Red Devils. That's according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims the Brazilian has been added to United's target list. Romano adds that Gomes is not a priority at present but could become one if Wolves decide to sanction his sale.
Gomes's contract doesn't expire until 2030 but in the world of strict financial regulations, every player has their price. And if Wolves are relegated to the Championship, as looks likely at present, they will be forced to sell off some of their most saleable assets, of which Gomes would be one.

Yorke enters Old Trafford debate
United legend Dwight Yorke has defended the club's plan to build a new Old Trafford.
Plans for a new 100,000 ground in the area have been unveiled, with the new stadium already being earmarked as a venue for the 2035 Women's World Cup, which will be held in the UK. While United plan to remain within the area, many fans would be reluctant to leave the club's iconic home and would prefer to see it revamped instead.
However, Yorke, part of the United's Treble-winning squad of 1999, believes a ground move is crucial to the club's long-term future. He told MEN Sport in his ambassadorial role for Escapist Magazine: "I think the new stadium will be a welcome one.

"If you look at the last turnover they published, it was in the £600m-mark without winning a trophy. To still generate that kind of interest tells you [how big a club it is].
"United will always be attracting players whether they are winning or losing. It doesn't matter where they are going to play. I can understand the local people who have always gone, and were raised, going to the Theatre of Dreams but, in reality, times move on and you have got to move with time."
