Ruben Amorim and Manchester United have gone back to the drawing board after their five-match unbeaten run came to an end with the 1-0 home defeat to 10-man Everton.

The absence of Matheus Cunha, who suffered a knock in training last weekend, and striker Benjamin Sesko due to a knee injury, added to the woes of the Red Devils. Neither player will be available for Sunday's game at Crystal Palace, where experienced defender Harry Maguire will also be missing.

The game against the Eagles, who have been performing impressively under Oliver Glasner, is a potential pitfall for United. Glasner has been touted as a possible replacement for Amorim should the Portuguese coach lose his job. MEN Sport delves into the latest United headlines...

Midfielder 'wants' to join

As Amorim looks to strengthen his midfield this January, another name has emerged as a potential target.

Brighton's Carlos Baleba and Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest have already been linked with moves to Old Trafford. Meanwhile, Wolves' Joao Gomes has expressed an interest in joining the Red Devils.

That's according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that while Gomes is not currently a priority, he could become one if Wolves decide to sanction his sale.

Gomes's deal runs until 2030, but under today's stringent financial rules, every player has a price. Should Wolves drop into the Championship, as appears probable currently, they'll need to offload some of their most valuable assets, with Gomes being amongst them.

Yorke defends Old Trafford plan

United hero Dwight Yorke has backed the club's plan to construct a new Old Trafford.

Proposals for a new 100,000-capacity venue in the vicinity have been revealed, with the stadium already pencilled in as a host for the 2035 Women's World Cup, which is set to take place in the UK. While United intend to stay within the area, many supporters would be hesitant to abandon the club's legendary home and would rather see it renovated.

Nevertheless, Yorke, who was part of United's Treble-winning team in 1999, considers a new stadium as essential for the club's future prospects. Speaking to MEN Sport in his role as ambassador for Escapist Magazine, he said: "I think the new stadium will be a welcome one.

"If you look at the last turnover they published, it was in the £600m-mark without winning a trophy. To still generate that kind of interest tells you [how big a club it is].

"United will always be attracting players whether they are winning or losing. It doesn't matter where they are going to play.

"I can understand the local people who have always gone, and were raised, going to the Theatre of Dreams but, in reality, times move on and you have got to move with time."
