Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has explained Diogo Dalot and Mason Mount's performances in training have seen them promoted to the first team against Crystal Palace. United have made two changes for the game this afternoon with the duo coming in to replace Patrick Dorgu and Noussair Mazraoui.
Amorim said in his press conference there was anxiety when Dorgu was on the ball for the Reds. But when asked why he had made his changes, the Portuguese head coach said it was based on what he had seen at Carrington.
He told TNT Sports: "It's the way you train. They trained really well, the others too. Then the tactical aspect. Mason Mount is really smart, gives us more possession. He is intense, he can score goals so is one more player to be near the box."
Should United win, they will move into the top six for a few hours at least. On that prospect, Amorim added: "It's so important to win, but the most important thing is to be competitive in every single minute. The table now doesn't matter, we are too far from the end."
The Reds enter today's game in the bottom half of the Premier League table. United's defeat to Everton was a bitter pill to swallow, especially with the visitors being down to ten men for much of the game.
If United are to record a positive result this afternoon, they will need to do so without three key players. Benjamin Sesko remains injured after picking up an issue in the draw at Tottenham.
Harry Maguire was also withdrawn against Spurs and he also misses out. Matheus Cunha picked up an injury in training before Everton and Amorim has confirmed the Brazilian is expected back for the clash with West Ham on Thursday.
