Kobbie Mainoo played a solitary minute for Manchester United against Crystal Palace.
So far this season, the midfielder has amassed 171 Premier League minutes, starting just once.
Ruben Amorim doesn’t see a starting role for Mainoo right now, and that doesn’t look like changing unless there’s injuries.
Last week, Naples newspaper Il Mattino reported Napoli are confident about signing the player in January. Today’s Il Mattino has a little more.
They report – relayed by NapoliMagazine, that Antonio Conte’s side are in a hurry to sign the Manchester United player. That fits in with some claims last week, which explained the Serie A side want a quick deal due to injuries.
Mainoo is the ‘hottest name’ and is at the top of the shortlist. The newspaper state Manchester United have no intention of letting the 20-year-old depart permanently.
This would suit Napoli, who want to execute a loan deal. They have already been in contact with his entourage, suggesting that those around Mainoo also want a move.
Negotiations for the youngster aren’t expected to last long. This is largely because Napoli need to know quickly. They would rather move on to other targets than drag things out.
Tuttomercatoweb also report contacts have taken place in the last few weeks. Napoli continue to monitor the midfielder and a transfer to Naples remains possible.
