Manchester United are reportedly eyeing up one of Brazil's most promising defenders, 17-year-old Luis Eduardo. The young talent has attracted attention from several top European clubs following his performance in the Under-17 World Cup last month.

Eduardo represented Brazil in Qatar and was heavily scouted throughout the tournament. Despite Brazil finishing fourth after losing to Portugal in a penalty shootout during the semi-finals, Eduardo's performances stood out.

Spanish publication AS has reported that the Brazilian captain's impressive speed has put clubs, including Manchester United, on high alert. The report suggests that Eduardo reached speeds of 38 km/h playing for Gremio U20 earlier this year.

It is said that both United and Chelsea have 'already done their homework and are trying to accelerate their pursuit'.

Moreover, it's reported that both clubs have already started negotiations with Gremio during the Under-17 World Cup, with offers expected in the coming weeks.

However, securing Eduardo's services may come at a significant cost, reports the Mirror.

Over the summer, the centre-back signed a new contract with Gremio that runs until 2028. As part of this deal, a £53million release clause was included, and it remains unclear whether United would be willing to meet this fee.

United have been focusing on signing young talents with the aim of nurturing them for first-team action. In recent years, they've brought in Chido Obi, Sekou Kone and Diego Leon to strengthen their future squad.

Ruben Amorim has also been praised for his faith in his younger players. 15-year-old JJ Gabriel has already been invited to train with the first team, making headlines over the weekend.

The young midfielder netted three goals in a 7-0 victory over Liverpool for the Under-18s, impressing club figures with his smooth footwork, dribbling and finishing skills. Gabriel has been participating in first-team training recently, fuelling speculation about his senior debut.

Gabriel could potentially become United's youngest-ever Premier League player. Angel Gomes (16 years, 263 days), Shola Shoretire (17 years, 19 days) and Chido Obi (17 years, 79 days) are currently the youngest players to have made an appearance for United in the Premier League.

He might even break the Premier League record held by Ethan Nwaneri (15 years, 181 days). Max Dowman (15 years, 235 days) is the second youngest. The teenager will turn 16 next October.
