One of Man United’s key players’ contracts is due to expire at the end of the season.

However, Casemiro himself bears an issue, as the 33-year-old’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season. He could leave as a free agent if United don’t extend his deal at the club, which would be a huge loss for the Red Devils.

Alan Smith urges United to keep Casemiro

Casemiro has been a big part of Amorim’s squad this season, making 12 Premier League appearances, scoring three goals, and providing one assist. He has become a mainstay for Amorim, and so losing him for free in June would be a big deal.

Former Premier League striker Alan Smith has told ManchesterWorld exclusively that he thinks the Brazilian has been “great” this season. Smith said: “I think it is great if he's used in the right way. I thought when they went to Liverpool, to Anfield, he was brilliant.

“I feel like he might not be able to play every game. If you use him in the right way, I'm sure it can be a real asset, especially in the big games where he's definitely got the experience.

“You need experience, and there's a lot of work that goes on between Saturday game to Saturday game around the place and in the dressing room, where he might bring a hell of a lot as well.”

What is the latest on Casemiro’s contract?

Nothing has been said yet in terms of potential negotiations ongoing, or deals being signed, but reports have indicated that Man United would like to keep the midfielder around. However, they do have an issue.

Casemiro is currently Man United’s highest-paid player at £350,000 per week, and so, the Red Devils will only want to extend his contract if he were to take a pay cut. So, it feels as though the situation is in Casemiro’s court.

He has reported interest from the Saudi Pro League, and no doubt there will be clubs around Europe who are keen to sign the 33-year-old. However, the midfielder could opt to take a cut and stay at Old Trafford, especially now that he has found a consistent role in Amorim’s midfield.
