Manchester United loanee Andre Onana has suffered a disappointing personal blow ahead of the African Nations Cup.
Andre Onana is on loan at Trabzonspor after being dropped by Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.
After falling to third choice following the deadline day deal for Senne Lammens, Onana was left trying to find another club, moving to the Turkish Super Lig with their window still open.
One reason Onana was particularly keen to secure a deal was his potential role for Cameroon at the African Cup of Nations.
Onana felt he could not afford to be sitting on the bench or in the stands, putting his international ambitions first. And it also meant that the January transfer window would not be a distraction for him at Cameroon.
Now there has been an unexpected twist that Onana did not see coming.

Andre Onana left out of Cameroon squad
Cameroon have announced their squad for the African Cup of Nations, and in a major shock, Andre Onana has been left out.

This is despite Cameroon naming four goalkeepers in their squad, there is no place for Onana.
The decision comes after Cameroon lost their World Cup qualifier playoff to DR Congo, with Onana conceding a low effort from Chancel Mbemba in injury time.
It is unclear if that goal is the reason for Onana’s omission – but he has had a fractious relationship with the Cameroon FA over the years.
When he signed for United in 2023 he had actually retired from international football after a fallout following the 2022 World Cup, before being tempted back.
Now it is hard to see 29-year-old Onana making a return to the international setup for his country.
The four goalkeepers selected ahead of Andre Onana
Devis Epassy (Dinamo Bucuresti)
Simon Omossola (Linafoot club Saint-Eloi Lupopo)
Simon Ngapandouetnbu (Montpellier)
Edouard Sombang (Colombe Sportive du Dja et Lobo)
