Mason Mount shares what Bruno Fernandes said to him seconds before his free-kick winner vs Crystal Palace

Mason Mount scored a vital winning goal to earn Manchester United all three points against Crystal Palace.

Ruben Amorim brought Mason Mount back into his starting line-up to face Palace, and the decision paid off.

Mount scored a second half winner after a quick free-kick taken by Bruno Fernandes to cue him up for a shot at goal.

It was a clever piece of play, with Fernandes placing a short pass to Mount, who shot low at the near post as the wall disintegrated.

Mount’s strike followed an equaliser from Joshua Zirkzee, with Manchester United holding on for the 2-1 win.

Mason Mount reveals Bruno Fernandes conversation

Manchester United’s free-kick winner was perfectly executed, and it looked like a carefully planned routine from the training ground.

And it might well have been something the players had worked on, but Mason Mount reveals there was a little disagreement between him and Bruno Fernandes moments beforehand.

Speaking to United media, Mount revealed the exact conversation he had with Bruno Fernandes before kick-off.

Mount explained: “It was a late one [decision], quite late. I said ‘no, you shoot’ because the sun was creating a bit of distraction for Deano in goal.

“And then he said ‘no, I’m going to roll it’ and rolled it straight away.

“If you watch it back, you see my reaction, I’m a bit late.”

Fernandes’ impulse decision might have caught Mount slightly off-guard, but it left Palace’s defensive set up even more surprised.

Mount still reacted expertly, striking his shot low into the bottom corner and leaving Dean Henderson stunned.

Successful day for Mason Mount

Mason Mount’s winner secured the three points with Manchester United ending a winless run at Selhurst Park that stretched back to 2020.

Mount’s goal came amid a notable personal achievement for him after an injury-riddled spell since signing for Manchester United.

This was the first time Mount had completed 90 minutes in the Premier League for United since joining the club in 2023.

Hopefully this is the first of many. He has had a quietly impressive season and United need him fully fit and on top form.
