Rasmus Hojlund makes admission about goal problem at Napoli with Man Utd loanee now in a drought

Rasmus Hojlund hit the ground running at Napoli following his loan move from Manchester United but the goals have dried up for the Dane.

Manchester United sent Rasmus Hojlund on loan to Napoli over the summer after he fell down Ruben Amorim’s pecking order.

Hojlund enjoyed a remarkable start in Naples, scoring twice in his opening four Serie A matches. Antonio Conte was delighted with Hojlund, and it seemed everything was rosy for the 22-year-old.

Did Manchester United make a mistake sending Rasmus Hojlund on loan?

However, a small injury setback ruined Hojlund’s rhythm and he is yet to add to his two league goals for Napoli, now on a drought of five successive games.

Former Napoli striker Antonio Careca pinpointed Hojlund’s struggles, suggesting the United loanee is showing signs of ‘nervousness’.

Rasmus Hojlund speaks about Napoli goal drought

Just last week, Hojlund missed a penalty for Napoli to extend his wait for a goal, although Scott McTominay spared his blushes by scoring and leading the Italian side to victory.

On Sunday, after United’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace, Hojlund featured in Napoli’s narrow 1-0 victory over Roma. The United loanee assisted David Neres to score the only goal of the game.

As quoted by TuttoMercatoWeb, Hojlund spoke about wanting to score more regularly.

“Obviously, I’d like to score a lot of goals again and start doing so soon, but it’s important to always contribute to the team, and I’m happy to help.

“I try my best to be useful. I consider myself a team player: winning is more important than scoring goals.”

Rasmus Hojlund yet to surpass his Man Utd record

Overall, Hojlund’s loan move to Napoli has been considered a success, and it seems in the best interest for all parties that his £38m buy option is triggered in the summer.

This is what Benjamin Sesko is really capable of!

Do you think Benjamin Sesko can hit this kind of form at Manchester United?

But United have been reminded exactly why they let Hojlund go. His output is simply underwhelming.

Last season, Hojlund only scored four goals in the Premier League season. In United’s 2024/25 top scorers list, he finished just fourth with 10 goals in all competitions.

Hojlund is on track to beat that record this season, but only if he can end his current drought quickly.

United upgraded their attack over the summer, with Benjamin Sesko brought in to replace Hojlund. Despite Sesko facing criticism for his start in Manchester, he still has the same number of league goals as his predecessor does in Italy this season.
