Former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay does not appear to have any regrets about his move away from Old Trafford. He issued a 13-word statement after winning the Serie A Player of the Year award at the Gran Gala del Calcio awards on Monday night.
"Coming to Napoli was an easy choice, I came to the right place," he said after winning the award, as reported by The Sun. McTominay was a key figure in Napoli's Serie A title success last season, with 13 goals and six assists in all competitions for Antonio Conte's side.
His fine form at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium saw him win the Serie A MVP award for the 2024–25 campaign. The Scotland international's first season away from Old Trafford was a huge success and he's carried that on into this season, helping Scotland qualify for the World Cup in 2026.
Speaking at the award ceremony on Monday night, the former United midfielder would hail his special bond with Napoli after his move in 2024. He said: "It’s sensational, it’s incredible to be here and win this award.
“Thank you to everyone, the team, the staff, and my teammates. My bond with Napoli is special, there are so many special places here."
The 28-year-old, who made 255 appearances for United and scored 29 goals, was also named in a star-studded Serie A top XI. Current Manchester City midfielder Tijani Reijnders was named in the squad along with Inter Milan stars Alessandro Bastoni and Federico Dimarco.
United supporters have been questioning the decision to sell McTominay after his brilliant start to life in Italy, with the club bringing in just £25million from his sale. Former United boss Erik ten Hag cited the need to comply with PSR as the reason behind the midfielder's departure.

"He was so important for our team," Ten Hag said. "He was at Manchester United for over 22 years. But unfortunately, it’s the rules. You have to discuss the rules to do sales, and obviously homegrown players, academy players, bring more value.
"It’s not the right thing to do but, for everyone, for all parties, it’s a good deal. For Scott, he is happy with it.
"Of course, for Napoli. (They are getting) a very good player. But also for us (it’s a good deal too)."
However, the reported £25million deal now looks a bargain for Napoli and McTominay would have been an ideal candidate to play in Ruben Amorim's 3-4-3 system. McTominay will be back in action with Napoli in the Coppa Italia clash with Cagliari on Wednesday night.
