Harry Amass’s loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday has been a huge success story for Manchester United this season.
Manchester United decided in the summer that 18-year-old Harry Amass should leave on loan to get experience elsewhere with Patrick Dorgu and Diogo Dalot ahead of him in Ruben Amorim’s pecking order.
Sheffield Wednesday fans adore Amass for his performances this season. Supporters recognise that the young defender has given everything to try and help the Championship club out of their current position.

Statistically, Amass is one of the best in the Championship in his position this season, despite Wednesday sitting at the bottom of the table.
Wednesday have held talks to keep hold of Amass beyond January. There is a break clause which allows United to recall him in January.

Man United’s stance on Harry Amass loan
United have been thrilled by Amass’ progress on loan this season, with the 18-year-old becoming a real contender to compete for the left wing-back spot in Ruben Amorim’s system.
Speaking to The Star, Sheffield Wednesday manager Henrik Pedersen revealed what United have said about Amass during discussions.

“I know they are very happy, and, of course, they have to be very happy,” Pedersen said about United’s stance on Amass.
“He is in a team that has a lot of trust in him and who work very, very seriously with him as a part of the team, but also individually.
“He also has a group of fantastic mirrors in our team with the senior players, where he can learn a lot. He is in a good group where he has a big respect around him, and we have big respect for Man United giving us the possibility and I am sure they have big respect for how we have worked with him.
“I hope we can continue after January. Of course, he fits well in our way of playing, he is developing well and I cannot see any reason not to do it.”
Man United should not disrupt Harry Amass loan
Pedersen admitted that Wednesday want to keep hold of Amass and reports suggest United are open to extending Amass’ loan.
Despite Amorim challenging his wing-backs this season and being unhappy with the form of Diogo Dalot and Patrick Dorgu, bringing Amass back to Manchester would halt his momentum.

“You can feel the anxiety every time Patrick touches the ball. I can feel the anxiety.”

The teenager has become a key player at Wednesday and is a mainstay in the starting XI. The experience he is getting at Hillsborough is priceless.

Amass is proving to Amorim that he has a huge future at United, but it would be a huge risk to try and throw him into the starting XI midway through the season.
United should allow Amass to complete the season in Sheffield before returning to Manchester and challenging for a starting spot over the summer.
