Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for a Bundesliga defender in the January transfer window.

Reports from Germany are now suggesting that Man United could target a Bundesliga star to help add more depth and quality at full-back, but they are battling against Real Madrid.

Man United “keeping an eye” on Nathaniel Brown

Frankfurt full-back Nathaniel Brown has become a name linked to several top European clubs in recent months. The German national has made 12 Bundesliga appearances this season, scoring one goal, and providing two assists. Aged just 22, he is not only proven at a young age, but has the potential to get even better.

According to Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg, Man United are “keeping an eye” on Brown ahead of the January window, with Real Madrid and Barcelona also keen on him. He also says that Brown is expected to command a transfer fee of at least £53m.

He is a left-back by trade, but can also play as a left-midfielder, meaning that he’s also very comfortable as a wing-back, which would suit Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation. Seeing as Patrick Dorgu has failed to find consistent form, United could sign Brown to be their number one option on the left, with Amad Diallo as the number one on the right.

Furthermore, with Mazraoui and Diallo at AFCON during December and January, if United did sign Brown, he would help fill the void left by the departed players before they return.

Brown could be a cheaper alternative to Livramento

Livramento has a market value of just £35m, but seeing as Newcastle has made it clear he’s not for sale, it is unlikely that he will be cheaper than Brown’s asking price of at least £53m.

Brown and Livramento are similar players, but if anything, Brown is more attacking, which would fit Amorim’s system much better anyway. So, it may not be that Brown would be a cheaper option; he would also likely fit into the Man United team better, too.
