United manager Ruben Amorim has been keen to use Amad Diallo as a right wing-back in his tactical system in the 2025-26 Premier League campaign.

The 40-year-old former Sporting CP head coach is a big fan of Amad’s versatility as a player, having used the United star as a No 10 and a wing-back in his set-up.

Amad has shown his attacking quality as a wing-back after linking up superbly well with Red Devils summer signing Bryan Mbeumo on the right flank this season.

“We know this season is different than last season. We play one game a week.

“So, we have to try to do better every game, and the mindset is positive in the dressing room.”

Mbeumo has impressed at United in the early period of his spell after his summer move, with the 26-year-old former Brentford ace being a standout performer.

Amad is familiar with Mbeumo’s abilities after playing alongside him and he thinks his teammate is a leadership-esque figure like Bruno Fernandes and Harry Maguire.

“We are a different team,” he continued.

Mbeumo has been in red-hot form this season and the Cameroon winger has netted six times and registered an assist in 14 matches across all competitions this season.

The former Bees ace, who arrived at Old Trafford back in July, has become a central figure to Amorim’s tactical system for United when it comes to the attacking line-up.

Mbeumo was asked if he sees himself as a leader after Amad’s remarks and the Cameroon international insisted that he is different on the pitch compared to off it.

“I don’t really know,” he said.

“I just try to be myself. I think I’m not really a leader off the pitch, but on the pitch, I try to talk a lot with the teammates, to give some indication, to help them in any way, you know, even to lift them up sometimes if they need.

“That’s what I try to do. But outside the pitch, I don’t really like to talk loud or give a speech.”

United signed Mbeumo from Brentford for an initial transfer fee of £65m, with the deal including a further £6m in potential add-ons.
