Ruben Amorim has used the 30-year-old United star as his preferred pick for the left-sided centre-back role after Lisandro Martinez picked up an injury last season.

Shaw has been in impressive form under the 40-year-old United manager and the England international has been able to overcome an injury-hit Old Trafford spell.

The United defender has played and started in all 13 of the Red Devils’ Premier League matches this season and Shaw has one assist to his name so far.

The former Southampton ace started alongside Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro and Shaw was a calming presence during the Red Devils’ comeback win at the weekend.

Speaking in his BBC Sport column, Troy Deeney insisted that the United and England full-back was arguably the standout performer on the pitch at Selhurst Park.

“He was by far the best player on the pitch,” he said.

“It wasn’t a great game at Crystal Palace, but he seems to be really thriving as that left-sided centre-back.”

Troy Deeney makes a prediction for Man Utd and England star Luke Shaw after his Team of the Week selection

Shaw struggled in the 2024-25 campaign after his season was disrupted by injuries, with the Three Lions star reduced to only 12 appearances across all competitions.

However, the United star’s run of form and consistency under Amorim in the current campaign has Deeney predicting that an England call-up could happen for Shaw.

“He’s showing with fitness – and with United looking like they are probably going in the right direction – a late call-up for England may come,” Deeney continued.

Shaw has not represented the Three Lions since Sir Gareth Southgate failed to lead England to the Euro 2024 title after a 2-1 loss to Spain at the Olympiastadion Berlin.
