United now face a quick turnaround as they prepare to welcome West Ham on Thursday night. Here, Express Sport delves into some of the headlines surrounding United.
Man Utd ready to entertain offers for four players
Manchester United are reportedly willing to part ways with four members of Amorim's squad during the January transfer window. ESPN claim that the Red Devils are open to offers for Kobbie Mainoo, Joshua Zirkzee, Manuel Ugarte and Tyrell Malacia.
United will need to generate funds to chase midfield targets in January. However, there is a potential snag, as letting players go early in the window could leave Amorim with a thin squad while the Africa Cup of Nations is still underway.
All of the aforementioned United players have found game time scarce this season. Zirkzee has made his way back into the starting XI due to injuries to other forwards, while Ugarte has only started three times.
England international Mainoo's only start was in the cup defeat to Grimsby, and he has been consistently rumoured to be on his way out of Old Trafford. Meanwhile, Malacia is yet to make an appearance this season.
Bryan Mbeumo boost
United have received a boost with Bryan Mbeumo, Amad and Noussair Mazraoui available for longer than initially expected ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations. The trio are set to represent their respective countries at the tournament, which kicks off on December 12. However, a recent FIFA ruling allows clubs to retain their players until December 15.
The cut-off was previously believed to be a week earlier. This means that Mbeumo, Amad and Mazraoui will now be eligible to play in the away match against Wolves on Monday, December 8, a game they were originally slated to miss.
However, it remains uncertain whether this extension will apply to United's home match against Bournemouth on December 15. Mbeumo will be participating in AFCON with Cameroon, while Amad will be representing Ivory Coast.
Mazraoui will also be aiming to lead Morocco to victory. The tournament is scheduled to continue until January 18.
Prior to the ruling, Amorim expressed his views on the situation: "We have the rules, when we have to release the players, so we will see. We are doing our job to try and maintain the players a little bit longer, but it is not just in our hands. We need to respect that, but we will try to do everything to protect the club, protect the players and protect the national team."
