The latest Man Utd transfer news and gossip as they look to add a new midfielder to their squad.

Manchester United could take advantage of a market opportunity and add a midfielder to their squad during the January transfer window.

United have made it a priority to refresh their midfield options at the end of the season and could sign two players in the position. Ruben Amorim would like to add a player with Premier League experience, but there is an appreciation that top targets might not be available until the end of the campaign.

Elliot Anderson has emerged as a top transfer target alongside Adam Wharton, while there is still interest in Carlos Baleba. Brighton used the previous sale of Moises Caicedo to Chelsea for £115 million as a benchmark for any Baleba sale, though his price could drop after a mixed start to the Premier League season. None of those players are likely to be available for transfer during the winter window, though.

United could look to sign Gallagher next month

Ruben Amorim has insisted Manchester United will only sign a player in the January transfer window if they offer long-term value to the squad. United enquired to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher on loan in the final days of the summer window, but the La Liga club made it clear he could only leave on a permanent deal.

The former Chelsea man is believed to be open to an exit next month, as he hopes to revive his chances of making the England squad for the World Cup. It could be a tempting proposal for United, though it is claimed that Atletico Madrid still don't want to let him leave on a loan deal.

Speaking in his latest YouTube video, notorious transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano issued an update on Gallagher's situation and claimed he could be sold for just £26 million next month.

“I think there is a chance for Conor Gallagher to leave Atletico Madrid already in the January transfer window or eventually in the summer," Romano said. "This will also depend on the formula of the deal. Manchester United were interested in Conor Gallagher as an opportunity in the final days of August but Atletico said no to a loan move and they don’t have that kind of intention.

“I think if maybe a permanent transfer proposal arrives, that would be different. Maybe something around 30 million euros (£26m), sources say that this could be the way to get Conor Gallagher in the January transfer window.”
