Man United appointed Jonny Evans as the loans and pathways manager after he retired in the summer.
However, there will also be other things for Amorim to think about, especially with a congested Christmas period coming up, and the January transfer window coming up next month.
There are 18 United players currently out on loan, with a few of them, no longer in Amorim’s plans. They include the likes of Marcus Rashford, Rasmus Hojlund and Andre Onana. Ignoring the veterans, there are 14 youngsters out on loan, and several of them are really impressive.
Daniel Gore scores first senior goal
Since Jonny Evans retired in the summer, he was appointed as loans and pathways manager, and the on-loan players have been closely monitored since they left Old Trafford in the summer, and one has recently shown Evans that he is really beginning to develop.
Daniel Gore has had several ‘failed’ loan moves, where he hasn’t been able to become a regular starter or impact player, but the 21-year-old is really beginning to hone his craft at Rotherham United in League One.
Gore recently scored his first goal for Rotherham in their 7-2 win against Salford City in the EFL Trophy Round of 32. So far this season, Gore has made 24 appearances in all competitions, with one goal and one assist. He hopes to continue having a huge role in Rotherham’s starting XI.
It is a crucial year for Gore, as his contract at Man United is due to expire at the end of the season, so if he impresses at Rotherham, Evans may tell the club that they need to offer him a new deal, and keep him around at the club. If his form drops, he may become a free agent come the end of the season.
Which other Man United loanees have impressed?
Perhaps the best performing youngster out on loan at the moment has been wing-back Harry Amass at Sheffield Wednesday. The Yorkshire-based club are bottom of the Championship, but Amass has been a bright spark. He’s made 14 Championship appearances, scoring one goal and one assist this season. Seeing as Amorim has a lack of wing-back options, he could look to utilise Amass more when he returns in the summer.
Toby Collyer has also performed well. The midfielder is on loan at West Brom in the Championship, and he’s been able to carve out a consistent role for himself in the Baggies’ midfield line-up. The 21-year-old has made 12 Championship appearances this season, contributing one assist.
Attacker Ethan Wheatley has also impressed in League One, like Daniel Gore, as he has scored three goals and provided three assists for Northampton Town. The 19-year-old striker has looked much-improved this year for the Cobblers.
