Goals from Berat Djimsiti, Marten De Roon, Mario Pasalic and Honest Ahanor allowed Atalanta to secure a 4-0 victory against Genoa in Bergamo today to advance to the Coppa Italia quarter-finals.

The visitors had a good start as they tried to press high to disrupt the Atalanta build-up, but La Dea emerged from pressure pretty quickly as they hit the crossbar with Mario Pasalic minutes before Berat Djimsiti headed in a Nicola Zalewski cross to give Atalanta the lead.

Kamaldeen Sulemana suffered a suspected muscle injury a few minutes later, so Daniel Maldini was introduced from the bench.

Djimsiti was very much of an aerial threat for Genoa as the Albania international had another chance to score from a corner kick, though this time his header sailed over the bar. Atalanta hit the woodwork for the second time with Maldini, who nearly beat Benjamin Siegrist at the near post with a free kick from the edge of the box.

Maldini also squandered a huge opportunity on the counter at minute 32, receiving the ball in central midfield but dragging his shot wide of the far post despite being clean through on Siegrist.

Genoa were reduced to ten men at minute 36 when Seydou Fini received an obvious straight red card for hauling down Raoul Bellanova on the edge of the box as he broke through on goal.

Marten De Roon doubled Atalanta’s lead in the second half with a perfect right-footed volley into the top corner from 18 yards.

Atalanta dominated possession, and both coaches made substitutions once it was clear the game would not take another direction.

Nevertheless, La Dea still managed to add two more goals. The first at minute 81 as Mario Pasalic reacted quickest to a scuffed effort from Gianluca Scamacca and slid the ball into an empty net at the far post. Then ex-Genoa defender Ahanor found the net with a weak header that Siegrist still couldn’t stop from crossing the line.

It was Ahanor’s first goal for Atalanta, but given that it came against his former club, the 17-year-old didn’t celebrate.

Atalanta will meet Juventus in the Coppa Italia quarter-finals next year, with the next round in the competition set to be played between February 4 and 11, 2026.
