Ruben Amorim has his Manchester United team improving slowly when compared with last season, and Benni McCarthy has liked what he is seeing.
It wasn’t a pretty opening 10 months of Ruben Amorim’s reign at Manchester United, but there is a clear level of improvement this season.
This form has seen United on a run of four wins in seven and just one defeat, which is better than anything last season, including two away Premier League victories.
Most recently, United secured a win at Selhurst Park for the first time in years, which is a big statement considering Amorim’s lack of victories away from home.
Now, former United coach Benni McCarthy has reacted to Amorim’s work.

Benni McCarthy excited to see where Ruben Amorim takes Manchester United
McCarthy wasn’t at United long, having been hired under Erik ten Hag. At the end of the 2023/24 season, McCarthy was let go by United, with Ruud van Nistelrooy coming in.
After departing United, McCarthy suggested Ten Hag wasn’t passionate enough for United, which contributed to his downfall.

Now, speaking to SportyTV, McCarthy has commented on Amorim’s time as head coach, admitting he is excited for the future.
I felt really sorry for the manager, for Ruben Amorim”, McCarthy explained.
“Because he came, he came into United at a very difficult time. new ownership, new change of guard, and the team not really performing to the level they should be, but he came in with a clear plan.
“This was what he wants to achieve and he stuck by his he stuck by his guns and he stuck by his philosophy and I mean everyone under the sun criticised him and that is not an easy place to be in when you are criticised and the whole world is watching.
“But he was probably one the only people that believed in himself as much and he’s turned things around, you know, and strong character.
“He must be, he must be a crocodile skin to be a strong and stick to his to his philosophy. And now I’m super proud. I’m super proud that he proved everybody wrong.
“He believed in his ability, believed in his way, and he’s getting Man United back to where they where they should be. I think it’s a process. It will take time. They will not win the Premier League this year, I think.
“But maybe next year from what you’ve seen over the last five matches if they continue in that part by next year I think Man United will be strong contenders or favourites to win the Premier League again because yeah they’ve got a manager who believe in his ability his philosophy and he’s been he’s letting the players also believe in what he’s doing is right because the players are responding and they’re winning matches and they’re beating Liverpool.
“So, beating Liverpool, beating Chelsea. I’m happy with that. That’s good progress. So yeah. So, I’m excited to see the Ruben Amorim revolution in the near future.”
McCarthy is backing Amorim’s long-term plan for Manchester United

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has backed Amorim to be a success in the future, insisting that the Portuguese head coach will get three years to make a success of his time at the club.
McCarthy stating that he thinks United will be title contenders next season is interesting. It also falls in line with Amad and Bryan Mbeumo admitting their targets to win the league.
It has been far too long since United were in these conversations, and if Amorim can fix the small issues of breaking down low blocks and mentally switching off, then it could become a reality.
