Conor Gallagher could be one to watch again in 2026, with movement already starting around the English midfielder ahead of the January transfer window.
The former Chelsea player has been attracting interest for months and a potential transfer can’t be ruled out already in January, or eventually in the summer based on proposals.
At the end of August, Manchester United asked Atletico Madrid for a possible loan move with an option to buy. But it was immediately rejected, as Atleti didn’t want to lose Gallagher and also didn’t have any time left to replace the Englishman with 48 hours to go for the end of the summer window.
Man Utd Could Target Gallagher Instead of Baleba or Anderson

That’s why nothing happened, but Man United maintain their appreciation for Gallagher.
He’s not the first and only name on the list, as priorities in midfield for United are different players, with names such as Carlos Baleba and Elliot Anderson among the most appreciated.
These are the top names on the shortlist for Manchester United, while Gallagher has always been seen as an opportunity if the conditions are right.

At the moment, sources close to Atletico Madrid insist on a permanent deal as the only way to get Gallagher in January for a fee of around €30/35m and they are not opening doors to a loan; the window is still closed and the situation might change but as of now, a loan without an obligation to buy isn’t a possibility to get Gallagher.
Discussions will continue in the next weeks to understand more about the final formula.
Crystal Palace wanted to bring Gallagher back to the club in August but it wasn’t possible; they remain big fans of the England international but he’s currently too expensive, while also Italian clubs have recently called to ask for information on potential deal conditions.
