Amorim tells £62.5m star to explode at Man Utd by taking the next step forward

Manchester United will look to continue their push for a top-four spot when they take on West Ham United at Old Trafford tomorrow.

Their last outing at the Theatre of Dreams ended in a painful defeat to Everton.

United must deliver a far stronger performance this time and ensure they take all three points.

Speaking ahead of the clash, manager Ruben Amorim heaped praise on Matheus Cunha for the positive impact he has made on the team.

He also revealed that Cunha has even more room to grow and can evolve into a true game-changer for the club.

He said (via ManUtd.com): “I think he has more levels to go. He’s in the different club, different pressure, but I think he [has] coped with that really well.

“He was struggling because he was not scoring and because of social media abuse [smiles].

“No, he was thinking too much about the numbers, but the influence that he has in the team, is so important for us. But I think Cunha has so much to grow defensively and offensively.”

Superb Cunha can do more

The Brazil international moved to Old Trafford from Wolverhampton Wanderers after United activated his release clause of £62.5 million.

He has made an impressive start to life in Manchester and has been pivotal in several key performances, especially in the win over Liverpool.

Cunha showed smart game management and energy to help his side register a crucial victory over their fierce rivals.

A hamstring setback earlier and a recent head injury have disrupted his playing time.

However, it is clear that United are a far more dynamic and dangerous side when Cunha is on the pitch.

The 26-year-old focused a lot on his attacking instincts early on but has shown superb improvement in defending.

When playing in the left-sided number 10 role, he frequently drops deeper to block central passing lanes and support the midfield.

This forces opponents to play wide rather than progressing through the most dangerous areas.

He has one goal in ten games, but his influence has been much more than that, as pointed out by Amorim.
