Amorim says£48m United star"struggles"after making mistakes, could be dropped vs West Ham

Manchester United entertain West Ham United in Thursday’s Premier League clash at Old Trafford.

Ahead of the game, manager Ruben Amorim was posed with plenty of questions in his pre-match press conference.

One of those was centred on Leny Yoro, who looked dejected on the bench after his early substitution versus Crystal Palace last weekend.

The Frenchman conceded a penalty for Palace’s opener and was eventually substituted in the 54th minute of the contest.

Speaking today, Amorim said that Yoro overthinks, and he tends to struggle after making a mistake.

He added that it was not easy for the youngster, but he should have kept his emotions in check after returning to the bench.

Amorim said: “I also spoke with him because he thinks too much, he makes a mistake and then he struggles.

“He wants to do everything so well. He’s growing, with games and with setbacks, it’s not easy for him as a young guy.

“He cannot show that to the people the way he came to the bench, he knows that.

“It shows he cares, he knows it wasn’t his best game. He is fit and ready for the next challenge.”

The 20-year-old had a tough outing against the Eagles. Aside from the penalty conceded, he made another error leading to a shot.

Amorim eventually opted to replace him with Noussair Mazraoui in the back three. The Moroccan star was much more composed.

It is most likely that Mazraoui will continue in central defence against the Hammers tomorrow night.

Yoro, valued at £48 million by Transfermarkt, will be hoping to win back the manager’s confidence with plenty of games to come.

Mazraoui will be away on Africa Cup of Nations duty after the Bournemouth game in mid-December.

This should present another opportunity for Yoro to return to the starting plans of Amorim.
