Manchester United are preparing to face West Ham United at Old Trafford, hoping to build on their 2-1 away win over Crystal Palace at the weekend.

Ruben Amorim’s side found themselves behind at the break in south London following Jean-Philippe Mateta’s penalty, but responded after the interval. Goals from Joshua Zirkzee and Mason Mount ensured that United bounced back from last week’s home defeat by Everton.

The United boss has confirmed that Matheus Cunha is back in contention to face the Hammers on Thursday night, though there are two unknown fitness doubts in Amorim’s squad. Here, Mirror Football takes a look at some of the headlines surrounding United.

JJ Gabriel transfer stance

Manchester United are confident of keeping academy starlet JJ Gabriel following Barcelona’s interest in the teenager. The 15-year-old came to wider attention following a hat-trick for United’s U18 side at the weekend and has scored 10 in as many games so far this term.

Barcelona have previously invited Gabriel and his family to the Camp Nou, with the United prospect also meeting first team players and touring the club’s facilities. However, United are determined to fend off Barcelona’s long-standing interest in the England U16 international.

United boss Amorim, who has already involved Gabriel in training, has spoken about the youngster: “Like everyone, I know he is a really talented guy and everyone paid attention on social media. You could see the U21s had a game and we had less players and tried to pick players for training that have talent.

“Not just for me to see for tomorrow but for them to feel what it means to be in the first team, the difficulties playing against our defenders, the difficulty of our training, the pace. If we can use every training we have to show the kids what they need to do to be here, it is important, not just for JJ but for everyone."

Scott McTominay message

Scott McTominay has made it clear that he has no regrets over his decision to leave Manchester United. The 28-year-old joined Napoli last summer and enjoyed a dream campaign as he helped the club win the Serie A title.

The Sun reported that upon being named Serie A Player of the Year at the Gran Gala del Calcio awards, McTominay said: "Coming to Napoli was an easy choice, I came to the right place.”

McTominay made 255 appearances for his boyhood club. However, leaving United has given the Scotland international a new lease of life.

He added: "It's sensational, it's incredible to be here and win this award. Thank you to everyone, the team, the staff, and my teammates. My bond with Napoli is special, there are so many special places here."
