Brandon Williams' post-Manchester United career could have taken a further blow after Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic admitted he could leave the club permanently in the January transfer window. Williams racked up 51 appearances for the United senior team having come through the academy at Carrington.

However, his career took a drastic turn two years ago when he was involved in a high speed crash. In May 2025, the defender was handed a 14-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, a three-year driving ban, and a significant amount of community service at Chester Crown Court

Williams would spend time on loan at Ipswich Town in the 2023/24 campaign but after just 17 appearances for the Tractor Boys, the Reds decided to release the defender. After being a free agent for the entirety of the 2024/25 season, Hull decided to take a punt on Williams and offered him a one-year deal.

Following the transfer being completed, Williams insisted he was ready to atone for the errors he made previously. He said: "It was just a learning process. Things did happen, but like I said, I've learned from them now. I'm growing up now, I'm not a young player no more.

"I'm becoming one of the senior players in the squad as well, so it's important for me to help the young players as well because I know how difficult it is. It was difficult because everyone kind of forgot what I actually achieved; people don't understand that.

"I didn't even understand at the time what I've actually achieved (playing for Manchester United at such a young age). There are a lot of people in the world who would wish that for their child or something like that. It was upsetting that I've let a lot of people down; it's for me to get things right now.

"Like, I've always said as well, I don't want any sympathy from anyone. It was my actions; I took responsibility for them. I've apologised, and all I can do now is just focus on my football and get things right on the pitch, and I'm sure that people will appreciate that."

Sadly for Williams, his chance to put things right on the field has not been forthcoming. The 25-year-old has struggled with his fitness and has made just one appearance in the Championship which was a five-minute cameo in the second game against Blackburn Rovers.

Jakirovic confirmed on Wednesday that Williams is now back in the treatment room again and his time at Hull could be coming to an end. He told BBC Humbserside Sport: "He felt yesterday his calf a little bit sore, he will go on an MRI and so we are awaiting news.

"Also we made one plan for him, six weeks plan, so he has the rhythm of the game so he played for the U21s and together with the club now we will decide what we will do with him in January - he will stay with us, he will fight for his place or he will continue forward maybe to change the club. But, we will see, this is also a question for all of the club.

"Right now, in those games (for the U21s), he showed something but I don’t know if this is enough for Championship. This is something that I need to decide for the January window - he will stay or he will change."

When asked if this would be more likely to be permanent rather than a loan, the Hull manager said: "Yes, yes, yes we are speaking now because January, if we can swap some positions we will do that but if we cannot then we will continue like this."

"He’s understanding. I cannot say now that he looks much better than when he arrived here but for the Championship you need an even better level," Jakrovic concluded.
